Add expenses and splits

Rata has no limit on the number of expenses. All split types are free.

Add an expense

  1. Open the group and tap Add.
  2. Type the amount and what it was for ("What for?").
  3. To change the category or the date, tap them. Categories are General, Food, Groceries, Travel, Transport, Stay, Fun, Shopping, Bills, Rent, Health, Gifts and Other.
  4. Tap Paid by and split to change who paid and how to split.
  5. Tap Save.

By default, you paid. Pick another person, or pick Several people and type how much each person paid. The amounts must add up to the total. In a trip with a kitty, you can pick Kitty.

Split types

How each split type shares an expense
SplitWhat it does
EqualEach person that you pick pays the same part. Tap a person to take them out.
ExactType the amount for each person. The amounts must add up to the total.
%Type a percent for each person. The percents must add up to 100.
SharesGive each person a whole number of shares, for example 2 for a couple and 1 for a single person.
AdjustAn equal split, plus or minus an amount for some people. For example, "+200" for a person who had an extra drink.

Rata makes sure that the parts add up to the total, to the last paisa.

Currencies

Each group has a main currency (INR by default). Tap the currency next to the amount to use another currency, for example on a trip abroad. Totals and balances use the daily reference rates of the European Central Bank. A sign "≈" shows an amount that uses a rate. A balance in more than one currency settles in each currency on its own.

Notes and bill photos

Repeat each month

In a Home group, turn on Repeat monthly for rent and bills. Rata adds the expense again each month.
