Settle up and UPI

Rata does not move money. Your UPI app does the payment, and Rata records it.

Balances

The top of a group shows your balance: green when people owe you, and red when you owe. Open Balances to see the payments that settle the group. Rata finds the fewest payments. Payments between other people are under Between others.

Add a UPI ID

To get money with UPI, each person adds a UPI ID once, for example name@okaxis. Open the group settings, tap your name, and tap Add UPI ID. You can also type it when you pay. The UPI ID is locked like all group data.

Pay with UPI

  1. Tap Settle up at the top of the group, or next to a payment in Balances.
  2. Check the amount. You can pay a part.
  3. Tap Pay … via UPI. Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or another UPI app opens with the UPI ID and the amount.
  4. Pay in the UPI app, then go back to Rata.
  5. Rata asks Did you pay?. Tap Yes, I paid. Rata records the payment and the balances change.

Rata cannot see your UPI app, so it asks. If the phone closed the browser tab while you paid, Rata still asks when you come back. UPI pay works for amounts in INR.

Record a payment

For cash or a bank transfer, tap Settle up, then I paid another way. Rata records the payment. No money moves. An amount in another currency than INR always records the payment only.

To record a payment between two other people, open Balances and tap Settle up next to their payment. When nobody owes anything, Settle up opens Record a payment: pick who paid and who got the money, type the amount and save. You can add a note to a payment.

Remind a person

In Balances, tap Remind next to a person who owes you. Rata opens WhatsApp with a short message and the amount. You can send one reminder to a person each day.

Change or delete a payment

Tap the payment in the list. Change it, or delete it and tap Undo if necessary.
