Group types
You pick the type when you make the group. To change the settings of a type later, open the group and tap the settings icon at the top.
Trip
For a holiday or a weekend away with friends or family.
- Dates: the first and last day. The top of the trip shows the spend and the cost per person per day.
- Budget: the top of the trip shows the budget that is left.
- Split: Equally (each expense is shared by all, and Rata skips the split step), By what each had (you pick the split for each expense) or By family.
- Families: put two or more people in a family. One person pays for the family, and settles for all of it. A child can be in a family without an account. Each person can be in one family only. Change families before you settle up, because a change also moves past balances.
- Kitty: one person holds the shared cash. Tap Add money to record money that a person gives to the kitty. Pick Paid by: Kitty for an expense that the kitty paid. The top of the trip shows what is left in the kitty. At the end, the normal settle-up gives the rest back.
- A trip can use other currencies. See Currencies.
Home
For a flat, a couple or a family house.
- Default split: Equally or By shares, for example 2 : 1 : 1. Each new expense starts with this split.
- Budget a month: the top of the group shows this month's spend, the budget that is left and the cost per person.
- Bills: turn on Repeat monthly when you add rent or a bill. Rata adds it again each month. To stop a bill, open it and turn off the repeat.
Party
- Host: the person who made the group, until you pick another person.
- Costs: Guests split (all guests share the costs) or Host pays (each new expense goes to the host only, also for guests who join later).
- A guest who buys something adds it as an expense. The host pays the guest back.
- The top of the group shows the cost per guest.
Gift pool
For a group gift, for example a birthday present.
- Gift for: the name of the person who gets the gift. Do not add this person to the group. They never see it.
- Collector: the person who collects the money and buys the gift.
- Target: the amount to collect. A bar shows how much is in.
- Each pays: Same part (the target divided by the number of people) or Own amount (each person sets an amount, and the collector pays the rest).
- Tap Start collecting to add the gift as one expense, paid by the collector. Each person then pays their part to the collector, for example with UPI.
- When the target or the people change, tap Update split.
Poker
For a poker night with friends. The group records buy-ins and chip counts, and settles each night.
- Buy-in rules: a minimum and a maximum buy-in, rebuys on or off, and the value of one chip. A buy-in below the minimum is not possible. A buy-in above the maximum needs the host to approve.
- Tap New game to start a night. Then tap Buy-in for each buy-in.
- At the end, enter the chips of each player in Cash-out.
- Close game works only when chips out equal chips in. If not, Rata shows the difference and the player with no count.
- After the close, each player sees "Won" or "Lost" for the night. The season table shows the results of all nights.
- Food and drinks are a normal expense with the group split. They are spend, not a poker result.
Other
A plain group with no special rules. Each expense uses the split that you pick.
